For accessing the login page of the website of department of Income Tax, Govt. of India, you require to visit the homepage of the official website https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home of the income tax department. On the right-hand side of this website, you can view a button named as “Login Here”. If you are a registered user, then you require to click on this button.

After you click this button, it will redirect you to a login page where you need to input your Income tax username and login password. This login password is known as your “efiling password”.

Your PAN number is your income tax login username.

How to recover your efiling password?

It happens that some people don’t remember their income tax username and password, which are necessary for login to the official website of the department of income tax, Government of India. This is a mistake which is done by most of the taxpayers. Remembering the username is very easy, as your PAN number is the login ID. But it is the login password which many people find difficult to remember.

If you are not able to remember your efiling password of income tax official website, then you can deploy the methods given below for resetting your password of income tax.

Reset efiling password of income tax

You need to remember that the website of the income tax does not provide the alternative of old password recovering. You can setup a new password and reset your password. After password creation, you can easily login via the password which you already created.

There are two ways to reset the efiling password of the income tax.

  1. Via the website of the income tax
  2. Via email sending to the department of income tax.

Through the Income Tax website

For resetting the password on the official website of the income tax, you require to click on the button “Login” and then you require to click on the option “forget password”.

Now, you need to input the PAN number and the code of the captcha which is shown on the link and then you require to click on the option “submit”. After the submission of this information, you get three different methods to recover the efiling password of the official website of the department of income tax, Government of India.

  • Input bank account number and e-file number of acknowledgement
  • Upload certificate of digital signature
  • Provide the reply to secret question

First method: Entering the bank account number and e-file acknowledgement number

In this method, you need to input your bank account number and also the number of acknowledgement. The number of acknowledgement is given in all previous returns of the income tax. You can note down the acknowledgement number from here.

If you don’t have physical copy of the return of the income tax, then you can also download this return from your box of mail. The department of income tax sends the ITR-V copy to your email address. After finishing the information needed, a new link is created for which you have to setup a password new. From this new password you can easily login to your account.

Second Method: Uploading the digital signature certificate

If you already registered your digital signature on the official website of the income tax, then you can reset the password by uploading certificate of the digital signature.

Third Method: Giving reply to the secret question

If you select this option, then you need to input the reply to the secret question, which you give during the account creation on the official website of the income tax and also need to mention your date of birth.

Reset the password by email sending to the department of income tax

if the payer of tax is not able to reset the password via any of the methods given below, then he or she need to send an email to validate@incometaxindia.gov.in and ask them to password reset by providing the information given below.

  • Mailing address
  • Name of Father
  • Date of Incorporation/Date of Birth
  • Name of Taxpayer
  • PAN Number
  • Within 48 hours, the department of income tax send a reply to you and you can easily reset your efiling password on the official website of the income tax.
