Capital Gain Valuation

Capital gain means the profit or gain earned by an individual after selling of capital asset. When the selling price of an asset is more than the purchasing price, capital gain is realized.

There are two types of gains i.e. short term capital gains & long term capital gains and they are differentiated on the basis of the holding period of the asset.

To make the fair computation of capital gain, indexation procedure is done to incorporate the time value of money at the time of calculating gains. It is only applicable in the case of long term capital gains. Capital gain is calculated on the basis of nature & number of transactions undertaken by an individual in a financial year.
