For importing or exporting goods, IEC registration is needed by a person. The DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) issued this code and this code consists of ten digits. Import Export Code registration is also required by all the businesses involved in export and import of the goods. The import export code is valid for the lifetime.
Without this code, importers are not authorized to import anything and exporters are not in a position to take advantage of exports from export promotion council, customs and DGFT. During clearance from the customs, the importer requires to quote the import export code. To send the money abroad, banks needed the import export code of the importers.
During sending the shipments, the exporters needs to quote the export import code. To receive money from outside the country, banks need the import export code of the exporters.
