Trademark renewal means extending the period of trademark registration by filing renewal application along with the prescribed fee. Registered trademark can be renewed for the period of 10 years. In case a person or entity fails to renew the registered trademark on time, then the mark will be removed as per the legal laws of trademark. Once the expiry date of the trademark renewal is gone, the registrar removes the trademark from the trademark register.

The owner of the registered trademark can also file the renewal application within 6 months after the expiry date along with the late fees. There are two ways to renew your trademark –

  1. Renewal in case of change in any sign or words of the existing trademark.
  2. Renewal without any change

Form TM-R is used to file renewal application. The application can be made either by the owner of the registered trademark or by his or her authorized agent.
