What is Police Clearance Certificate?

Police clearance certificate is a legal document issued to the Indian passport applicants & holders by the police department to confirm that the applicant has no criminal record. Police verification is mandatorily required at the time when you are applying for fresh passport whereas no police verification is needed in case of reissue of passport.

List of Documents Required for Issuance of Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)

List of documents required for Police Clearance Certificate are as follows -

  • In case the present address of the applicant is different from what is mentioned in the existing passport
    • Proof of current residential address including Aadhaar card, water bill, telephone bill, electricity bill, Voter Id card, Income tax assessment order, Proof of gas connection, Parent’s passport copy (In case of minor), Spouse’s passport copy, Rent agreement, Bank account passbook.
    • Original old passport with self-attested photocopies of its first two and last two pages including ECR/NON-ECR page & page of observation (if any).
  • In case the present address of the applicant is same as mentioned in the existing passport
    • Original old passport with self-attested photocopies of its first two & last two pages including ECR/NON-ECR page & page of observation (If any)

Apply for Police Clearance Certificate through e-Form Submission

  • Firstly, download the e-form by clicking “Download e-form” link given on the homepage.
  • Fill the e-form and click on validate and save button mentioned on the form. This will create an XML file which will be required later to upload in the system.
  • Register yourself on Passport Seva online portal by clicking on “Register now”.
  • After doing registration, login to the Passport Seva online portal with your registered login ID and password.
  • Upload the “XML file” by clicking on “Upload e-form” link. Kindly don’t upload the PDF file because the system accepts XML file only.
  • Click on “Pay & schedule appointment” link under “View saved/submitted applications to schedule an appointment. Online payment is now mandatory at all PSK’s/passport offices for booking appointments online. Online payment can be done by the following methods –
    • Credit/debit card (Master & Visa)
    • Internet banking (SBI & other banks)
    • SBI bank challan
  • Take the printout of the application receipt containing application reference number by clicking on “Print application receipt”. As per the new process, it is not mandatory to print the application receipt, a SMS containing your appointment details is also considered as a valid proof of appointment by the PSK/Passport office.
  • Go to Passport Seva Kendra/Regional passport office on your scheduled date where appointment has been booked. Do not forget to carry your original documents.

  • Fill the required details in the form and submit the same online.
