What is Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI)?

CMMI stands for capability maturity model integration. It is a process level improvement training and appraisal program. This program can be used to make improvements in the process of a project, division or an organization. It is the most comprehensive model comprises of most important elements that are needed to produce great products or deliver great services. 5 Maturity levels in CMMI Certification

Maturity levels are a well-defined progressive action in order to achieve mature software process. It focuses on continuous process improvement. It is based on 5 maturity levels that anticipate an organization’s ability in order to successfully develop software process. CMMI certification contains 5 maturity levels and they are as follows –

Maturity level 1 – Initial

The first maturity level is the initial stage of development which states that the organization’s success not only depends upon the proven processes but also depends upon the ability & expertise of the employees of the organization.

Maturity level 2 – Managed

Organizations at level 2 of maturity are the organizations which has achieved all the goals or objectives specified at the maturity level 2 for processes, work products, process requirements as well as services. At this level of maturity, organization’s main focus is on project management.

Maturity level 3 – Defined

Maturity level 4 – Quantitatively managed

Organizations at maturity level 4 are those organizations in which goals for quality and performance are established in numeric terms. It is done to control the key processes and sub-processes of the organization.

Maturity level 5 – Optimizing

Organizations at maturity level 5 are those organizations which developed process to continuously improve the performance. This is done to know the common causes of delay in the process & variations and to improve the performance by doing change in processes.
